Dr Wei Cui PhD MD
Dr Wei Cui is a distinguished scientist who initially trained as a medical doctor in Beijing. She obtained her PhD from University of London in the field of cancer research. She did her Postodoctoral research in University of Glasgow and Roslin Institute to study cancer genetics and treatment. The birth of Dolly, the cloned sheep, inspired her interest in stem cell research and the biology of ageing. She moved to Imperial College London in 2006. Over past years, her research team has developed methods to efficiently produce liver cells or nerve cells from embryonic stem cells, highly important for both basic stem cell biology and for medical applications. She and her colleagues also provided the evidence that genetic factors have an effect on ageing. She has a daughter and in her spare time, she likes reading and spends time with her family.
