Dr Nobuaki Kudo PhD
Dr Nobuaki Kudo is a basic scientist from Japan whose interests are in molecular cell biology. He received a PhD from the University of Tokyo for his study on an anti-cancer drug called leptomycin. His discoveries include the drug’s very unique mode of action in the cells; leptomycin firmly binds to a transporter protein and inhibits protein transport from nucleus to cytoplasm. He continued his study in cell biology as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology in Vienna Biocenter, Austria. He studied mechanisms of chromosome segregation in mammalian oogenesis and spermatogenesis. He discovered that timely regulation of chromosome cohesion and segregation is important to produce eggs and sperm that contain right numbers of chromosomes. In 2007 he came to Imperial College London and started his research group at the Institute of Reproductive and Developmental Biology. He lives in central London with his wife and daughter.
